Pushbikers 2022: Part III

Three wins

Three wins

The “search” for the right riders for the coming season is multifaceted. It is always a pleasure when racers approach us on their own initiative. This is what happened with the three future Pushbikers we would like to introduce to you here. They are three German riders in their interesting mid-twenties, all three come from the east of Germany and for all three the change to the Maloja Pushbikers brings quite a change. We would like to welcome Patrick Reißig, Paul Rudys and Philip Weber to the team.

Patrick Reissig

Home: Leipzig I Born: 1994 I Height: 1.71 m

Patrick first became interested in cycling at the U23 level – influenced by what he describes as the “early-2000s generation”, which he emulated at an early age. Patrick is a trained teacher and comes to the Pushbikers from Team SchnelleStelle. A career changer – but one who wants to know. His top 10 overall finish in the 2021 national league acknowledges a consistent and solid 2021 season for him. As an all-rounder, he is capable of doing well in flat stages, but also in hilly and mountainous races.

„I am looking forward to the team spirit, the professional structure and the fresh way of looking at cycling. The Pushbikers hit the zeitgeist, are cool and successful – it was not a difficult decision for me.”

Magnus Cort Nielsen is a role model for him with his riding style. And Patrick loves to ride his training laps in the Mulde Valley – that’s the Leipzig version of collecting altitude metres, because in times of need, the devil eats flies and in this case they don’t taste so bad as he thinks.

Paul Rudys

Home: Cottbus I Born: 1998 I Height: 1.75 m

Paul for 2017 to 2020 for the LKT Team Brandenburg and last year for the Stevens Radteam Berlin. As a puncher/climber, he can point to 4th place at the U23 German Championship Berg 2020 and 9th place at Eschborn Frankfurt (UCI 1.2) so far in his career, for example. Paul admits that he can’t do much without a good espresso in the morning. But nothing lets him switch off from everyday life like cycling.

„I am often in the right place at the right time – also in the race. And I always know the shortest way home on training rides.”

Paul finds inspiration in architecture or designed urban space; he studies urban and regional planning at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. From a sporting point of view, taking part in the Tour of Germany is his big dream; for 2022 he has resolved to get 110 per cent out of himself in every race and to have a gigantic and successful time with the team.

We are happy to have you with us, Paul!

Philip Weber

Home: Berlin I Born: 1998 I Height: 1.93 m

Philip came to cycling through an advertisement in a local newspaper, in which a cycling club was presented. After a trial training session, he rode in beginner races as a child a short time later. Philip went through the entire Brandenburg sports school system, starting at the age of twelve at the Olympic Training Centre in Frankfurt/Oder and continuing until his Abitur at the Olympic Training Centre in Cottbus. He raced for the national league team LV Brandenburg, made the jump to the LKT Team Brandenburg, where he spent his entire U23 time. In 2021 he rode for the Ked Stevens Radteam Berlin.

„I believe that the change and leaving the fixed patterns can help me to make another leap.“

Among the most important moments in his career is 6th place in a stage of this year’s Tour of Szekerland (UCI 2.2) and 18th place in the GC. Philip also has experience on the track, not least thanks to Heiko Salzwedel as his coach: he finished fifth at the German Track Championships in the 1000-metre time trial, has already ridden the UIV Cup twice at the Rotterdam and Berlin Six-Day Races and the Cottbus Nights.

Cycling also means freedom for Philip and, as he says, has not only allowed him to gain experience, but also to travel to many countries such as China, America and almost all of Europe. His personal race ritual: always put on the left sock first. Since 2019, Philip has been a student at Ansbach University of Applied Sciences – and is now familiarising himself further with Bavarian culture with the Pushbikers.

Welcome to the team, Philip!
