Ciao Liam,
Welcome to the Pushbikers! Let’s look back at the past year 2021. It was a very successful one for you, can you tell us briefly?
It was a very strong year. I competed at the Tokyo Olympics, albeit as a reserve, and at the end of the year I won the World Championship in the 4000 m team pursuit on the track in Roubaix.

Since when have you been riding for the Italian national team?
I competed in my first track world championship in 2009 as a junior in my first year. From then on, I always rode for the national team. At the same time, I was under contract with professional teams for seven years, Team Southeast, several seasons with Team Wilier and most recently with Vini Zabú.
And what does your task in the national team look like in concrete terms?
In the team pursuit, I ride in second position. Everyone who knows the discipline a bit knows that this position is a challenge. My job is to lead and try to accelerate again or to have the feeling to keep the speed constant. But I also ride other endurance disciplines on the track: omnium, points race and also Madison.
Where do you prefer to train?
I love the Euganean Hills the most, very close to where I live. I like to train with two or three people, no more.
How would you explain the current success of the Azzurri on the track?
We are racers and teammates – but first and foremost we are friends. Friends you can rely on, trust, but above all we help each other. Different minds, but one goal.
Is there any advice on training or fitness that you can pass on ?
I think mental strength is the key to improvement. The head helps you to do great things.
What is a great moment for you?
When my family is at races to see me.
What do you enjoy most – apart from cycling?
I don’t have any great hobbies. My only passion is being at home and enjoying time with my parents to the fullest.
